چکیده

A model is developed based on a two-stage hydrogenation of pyrolysis gasoline to obtain a C6-C8 cut suitable for extraction of aromatics. The first stage hydrogenation takes place in a trickle bed reactor while the second stage hydrogenation is carried out in a two compartment fixed bed reactor in which hydrogenation of olefins takes place in the first compartment while the sulphur is eliminated in the second compartment. The key component in this stage is considered to be cyclohexene whose hydrogenation was found to be the most difficult among other olefins in the feed. The LangmuirHinshelwood kinetic expression was adopted for hydrogenation of cyclohexene and its kinetic parameters were determined experimentally in a micro-reactor. The model was solved for the whole process of hydrogenation, including hydro-desulphurization. The predictions of the model were compared with the actual plant data of an industrial scale pyrolysis gasoline hydrogenation unit and satisfactory agreement was found between the model and the plant data.

Estimating Profitability of Two Biochar Production Scenarios: Slow Pyrolysis vs. Fast Pyrolysis

We estimate the profitability of producing biochar from crop residue (corn stover) for two scenarios. The first employs slow pyrolysis to generate biochar and pyrolysis gas and has the advantage of high yields of char (as much as 40 wt-%) but the disadvantage of producing a relatively low-value energy product (pyrolysis gas of modest heating value). The second scenario employs fast pyrolysis to...

Effect of support nature on performance and kinetics of nickel nanoparticles in toluene hydrogenation

The kinetics of toluene hydrogenation over Ni-supported catalysts with various supports was investigated under the wide range of conditions as 130 to 210 °C reaction temperature, 2.6×10-5 to 5.9×10-5 atm partial pressure of hydrogen and 1.4×10-9 to 3.7×10-8 atm partial pressure of toluene. For more study, two kinetics models were also selected and studied to describe the kinetics of this proces...

Energy-Efficient Routes for the Production of Gasoline from Biogas and Pyrolysis Oil—Process Design and Life-Cycle Assessment

Two novel routes for the production of gasoline from pyrolysis oil (from timber pine) and biogas (from ley grass) are simulated, followed by a cradle-to-gate life-cycle assessment of the two production routes. The main aim of this work is to conduct a holistic evaluation of the proposed routes and benchmark them against the conventional route of producing gasoline from natural gas. A previously...

BTX Hydrogenation in liquid phase using nanoparticles of Cobalt/MWCNTs and data analysis using RSM method

BTX compounds (Benzene, toluene and xylenes) are the main pollutants in air and fuels. Recent environmental legislations are limited the amount of these materials specially the amount of benzene in gasoline due to its carcinogen effects on health. In this research, the BTX hydrogenation was carried out using nanoparticles of Co supported on MWCNTs (multiwall carbon nanotubes) and AC (activated ...

Hydrotreating of fast pyrolysis oils from protein-rich pennycress seed presscake

The fast pyrolysis oils produced from proteinaceous biomass, such as pennycress presscake differ significantly from those produced from biomass with mostly lignocellulosic composition. Those from proteinaceous biomass tend to be deoxygenated, contain more nitrogen, be less acidic and be more stable. Because their composition is different, their behavior in and products from upgrading via hydrot...
